Tamil Nadu: Flash floods wash away a temporary bridge built across an irrigation canal near Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. More than 100 families are affected as they struggle to access the village and commute for daily activities. The incident happened near Sauttahalli Kottai village, near Guduganahalli, where the canal built for irrigation purposes often causes frequent disruptions to connectivity during the monsoon season.
According to The News Mill's report, the villages have been demanding a permanent bridge to resolve the issue with the authorities for years. After they failed to do so, they pooled Rs 8 lakh from their own circle and built this temporary bridge to ensure a daily commute for around 100 villagers. However, the sudden flooding over the past few weeks caused a sudden rise in the canal water level and washed away the temporary structure altogether.
With the bridge dilapidated, the daily commute takes a longer time with a distance of 5 km extra to be covered to reach the other end.
The incident affected daily travel, especially for those travelling for work and other necessary pursuits for livelihood. Residents have urged the authorities in the district administration to intervene and restore connectivity while stressing the demand for a permanent bridge.
